A national table tennis player, Funke Oshonaike, has cried out over a statement credited to her in some sections of the media that she insulted the minister of sports, Solomon Dalung.

Oshonaike who spoke to our correspondent from her base in Hamburg Germany on Monday denied ever making abusive statements against the nation’s number one sport citizen.
The ping ponger apparently furious about the development said it was unfortunate that some journalists misquoted the live interview she had last week with a national television station.
She said: “I did not travel to Sudan and during the live interview; I explained how painful it was for me to have missed the tournament.
“I also said I decided not to go because I was yet to get an outstanding ticket refund and also because I already qualified for the Olympic Games.
“The advise I gave the authorities was that they should please support the game and encourage the players because the country is blessed with lots of talents.”
Oshonaike stressed that it was a shock to her that people have been calling her from Nigeria and other parts alluding that she insulted the minister.
“I never did and will not do such a thing. I have been representing the country for over 25 years and I know things that are not right to be done by an athlete.”
I am a patriotic Nigerian and will always want the best for my country,” Osonaike added.
